Urgent Appeal
Drought Hit Villages of Gadap Town Karachi
Due to lesser rains, many areas are under drastic threats of Drought. Parts of Sindh Province are really pathetic. One worst area is far flung villages of Gadap Town Karachi. They are not even acknowledged by the respective government departments as drought hit. But visit by a team of disaster response workers on September 30,2018, saw the horrible effects. There is no rain for last 30 months there. Even just 100 kms away from Karachi, there are no roads, no electricity, no gas, no phone service, no schools, no hospitals. Major source of income is rain fed agriculture which has been destroyed. Cattle rearing is the 2nd major source but due to no water and vegetation, cattle are sick and are sold in low prices to get food.
Women and children are most vulnerable. Suffering from diseases, pregnancy complications and nutrition deficiency, many have lost lives. Water is scarce and water wells are dried, most hand pumps are out of order or with brackish water. 4 solar water pumps are there but one is out of order. Women of villages have to walk long distance in a hilly terrain area to bring water.
Let’s save women and children and livestock from death. Let’s be hope for them. With your support, at least 1 solar water pump can be repaired and villagers can have water. They can use it for drinking, cooking, washing, for cattle and some cultivation. 2 Medical camps are also highly recommended which will benefit about 500-700 individuals mainly women, children and elderly. One Vaccination camp for remaining cattle which can save the main source of income.
DEEP requests your support in the following:-
1- 2 solar panels for one solar water pump at Jabal Deh Goth Costing Rs. 30000/- + transportation and installation cost about Rs. 15000/- + one water storage tank about Rs.10000/-
2- 2 medical camps alongwith expenses of medicine, medical staff and transportation. About Rs.200,000/-
3- One vaccination camp for almost 1000 cattle which would cost about Rs.50000/-
We request all of you to contribute whatever possible and further details would be shared with all the contributors. If some organization or individual wants to help those people directly, DEEP would facilitate accordingly.
