Urgent Appeal
Drought Hit Villages of Gadap Town Karachi
Due to lesser rains, many areas are under drastic threats of Drought. Parts of Sindh Province are really pathetic. One worst area is far flung villages of Gadap Town Karachi. They are not even acknowledged by the respective government departments as drought hit. But visit by a team of disaster response workers on September 30,2018, saw the horrible effects. There is no rain for last 30 months there. Even just 100 kms away from Karachi, there are no roads, no electricity, no gas, no phone service, no schools, no hospitals. Major source of income is rain fed agriculture which has been destroyed. Cattle rearing is the 2nd major source but due to no water and vegetation, cattle are sick and are sold in low prices to get food.
Women and children are most vulnerable. Suffering from diseases, pregnancy complications and nutrition deficiency, many have lost lives. Water is scarce and water wells are dried, most hand pumps are out of order or with brackish water. 4 solar water pumps are there but one is out of order. Women of villages have to walk long distance in a hilly terrain area to bring water.
Let’s save women and children and livestock from death. Let’s be hope for them. With your support, at least 1 solar water pump can be repaired and villagers can have water. They can use it for drinking, cooking, washing, for cattle and some cultivation. 2 Medical camps are also highly recommended which will benefit about 500-700 individuals mainly women, children and elderly. One Vaccination camp for remaining cattle which can save the main source of income.
DEEP requests your support in the following:-
1- 2 solar panels for one solar water pump at Jabal Deh Goth Costing Rs. 30000/- + transportation and installation cost about Rs. 15000/- + one water storage tank about Rs.10000/-
2- 2 medical camps alongwith expenses of medicine, medical staff and transportation. About Rs.200,000/-
3- One vaccination camp for almost 1000 cattle which would cost about Rs.50000/-
We request all of you to contribute whatever possible and further details would be shared with all the contributors. If some organization or individual wants to help those people directly, DEEP would facilitate accordingly.

While the trauma affects and psychological disorders may remain haunt them for the times beyond measures.

According to latest Government statistics, over 94,600 houses are fully or partially damaged. Communities are requesting temporary shelter supplies and permanent reconstruction materials. This includes winterized tents, blankets, kitchen sets and warm clothing. According to rapid assessments by some NGOs involved in relief efforts, people who have lost their food stocks and livestock, will need sustained support to meet their food needs throughout the winter period. Heavy rains are expected over the weekend, which may cause more flash flooding and could trigger landslides in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, the meteorological department said earlier this week.

Scattered rain of modest intensity is also expected over Sindh and upper catchments of all the major rivers along with Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Balochistan.
Gilgit-Baltistan
At least two people have died and one was injured in Ghanche area of Gilgit-Baltistan, as the NDMA issued fresh warnings of rains and GLOF in Bagrot valley.

DEEP Climate Change Campaign (DC3)
Due to rapid urbanization, excessive deforestation and unplanned water usage, mega industries, air and water pollution, all these factors have put the whole world in severe crisis and India and Pakistan are going to be the worst victims in South Asia.
As per new research which is almost an year old now, the water bed in India and Pakistan's fertile land is getting deeper and deeper and that's why, the northern plains of India and eastern plains of Pakistan, collectively The Punjab on both sides will be suffering.
These are drastic effects but our respective governments are normally having a blind eyes about these climatic changes and due to this both the countries have been a prey to severe flooding in recent past.
The timber mafias are cleansing face of the earth rapidly and especially hilly areas are the center of this greedy but powerful tycoons. The deforestation has its drastic effects on environment, livelihood of the respective communities and the generations to come. It has endangered not only the humans but also wild life, biodiversity, flora and fauna and the land as well.
What we must do to minimize these dangers is to plant more and more trees every where, use water conservation techniques, reduce disposing solid and toxic wastes in water sources, campaign against timber mafias and pressurizing governments to make the industries environment friendly.
Remember!!!!! Both the countries are geographically connected and the problems and effects of the climate change will be similar for both.
Objectives of the DC3
1-Sensitize and aware communities regarding causes and effects of Climate Change.
2- Support and facilitate efforts by individuals, civil society organizations, educational institutes, policy makers and industrialists regarding conservation of environment and natural resource management and development.
3- Build network and launch advocacy for taking measures for reducing harmful effects on land, environment and population.
Those organizations, individuals and institutes wish to be part of DC3, are most welcome.
